May 29, 2o09:
Yesterday was my birthday, and my boyfriend took me to visit some friends in Keene, NH. It was so much fun- probably the best birthday I've had in quite a while. We played Phase 10 and went to get ice cream. So much fun! Thank you to all that participated!
I'm currently looking for a summer job. Although I would absolutely love to get a full time job somewhere, it seems as though no where is hiring for a full time job that is in my field. I'm beginning to think that I will need to have numerous part time jobs and/or seasonal jobs throughout this next year that I am out of school. I think this is okay with me, as long as I can make enough money to afford the minimal things (like paying loans and credit card bills). I applied to be a camp counselor at a camp today, and I will be sending out two other cam counselor applications tomorrow. They were probably due months ago, but you never know these days!
For now I think that's it. I need to go frost my birthday cake that we didn't have time to make yesterday! Cheers for now! :)

May 26, 2009:
Life is interesting. Currently, I'm still looking for a job, but in the meantime (because one cannot spend all day searching the online job market) I read and play World of Warcraft. I play that game literally for something to do, although it is quite fun when you have time to do so. When it comes to reading, I like a variety of things. I am addicted to Harry Potter and the Twilight series, but I also enjoy a good mystery author like Dan Brown or Steven Saylor. I do enjoy others as well, such as Edward Abbey and Michael Pollan who write environmental Literature, and of course, Shakespeare and Jane Austin. Books, for me, are a way for me to forget about my problems and fall into someone else's story. It's wonderful! Currently I am reading Roman Blood by Steven Saylor. It is about a murder in Rome, and although it was a bit slow at first, it is getting really good. I highly recommend it if you enjoy murder mysteries! If there are any books that you have recommended for me let me know! I enjoy every kind of book, and I will read anything once! :)
I'm living at my boyfriends house currently, and he has an interview tomorrow. Hopefully it goes well for him, but I'm still currently jobless. I will most likely be at his house by myself most of the day, so I will probably pick up hobbies that I never thought I'd have. Probably some arts and crafts or blogging more often.
That's it on life for now, maybe more later today, maybe tomorow. Cheers for now!

Books and Grad schol
Today I received an email telling me that I did not get the job with the company I had hoped. They did not receive their extra grant money, so again I start from square one. I have been applying to jobs daily, and so far the only one I've heard back from cannot hire me. I should have just applied for graduate school right away, so I wouldn't have to be in this mess of trying to find a job in a time when I have so many things due, like my student loans (which need to be paid off starting in August).
I'm trying to think of things that I need to get done, you know, to occupy myself. Right now, I can't really think of anything, so I'm reading books and playing World of Warcraft. It's something to pass the time and take my mind off the frustration of finding work. Speaking of books, I'm thinking I may start writing one. It already has a title, but I won't say it yet. I'm not sure if it will actually happen, but I had a dream about a year ago, and it was so vivid that it SHOULD be a book. Maybe just a short story, depending on how long I can make it, but we'll see. For now, I'll just write down the ideas I get from it and hope it goes somewhere.
Graduate school is definitely an option for fall of 2010. I'm looking at the Boston University program in Geographpy. It's something I truly love reading and learning about, and I could talk about it for hours. I plan on taking the GREs soon, in hopes to apply for grad school this upcoming fall. It would be so nice to have that squared away, knowing that I have something set in stone.
I think that's it for now. I'll keep you posted about the book, and maybe if it has so merit, I'll post some of it here to get feed back. Cheers!

The Job Market...
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009:
Today I got an email from one of the companies that I applied to for a job. They need to apply for more grant money, so I don't have it yet. They told me it's a 50/50 chance that they will get accepted for the money, and they should know by Thursday of this week (which is May 21st). Although I am thoroughly hoping this job works out, this is not the first job I have applied for. I have spent six months looking for a full time job, and in that time I have managed to uphold one part time job for three months during tax season. Since then, I have lived at home, applying to at least one job a day, and I have yet to make any ground on the whole "real life" thing... unless this is it?
It's disheartening, knowing that you have "what it takes" to get a job, yet no one will hire you. I spent four and a half years at Keene State College, where I spent over $35,000 to get TWO Bachelor's degrees in Economics and Geography, and I still can't land a job. What does it take to get one these days? I have experience in community service (as a Resident Assistant for two and a half years), I was an Office Assistant and Desk Attendant, I am a member of two honor societies, I received two degrees and graduated with a 3.224 GPA... is this not enough? Tell me, you employers who are reading this, what else does it take?
Today it was posed to me that I may be "overqualified" for the jobs I am applying for, which may be the case. If I am overqualified for these jobs, and the other available openings I have seen required 5-10 years of experience (which I am under qualified for), than what AM I qualified for? It seems to me that many people are experiencing this problem across the country, and we cannot find a solution.
In lieu of everything I have just stated above, I am still not giving up hope. As I hear all the time, there are plenty of jobs out there, it just takes some dedication to finding one. I am not going to give up when the going gets rough, I know there is more. I have too many impressive things on my resume to stop at one disappointing email; I am interested in too many things and have dedication to too much in my life to stop now... and neither should you.
Find what you are good at, and pursue it. You will not succeed in what you hate doing, so make the best out of what you love. After all, "do what you love" is what we're told from childhood... but we're also told that a college education will give us a better paying job when we graduate too...
